The Biomedicine Department is one of the four Departments of the Centre for Research and Technology-Thessaly (CE.RE.TE.TH.) which was founded on the 23rd of January of 2006.
CERETETH is a non-profit organization constituting a legal entity of private law that resides in the city of Volos. With regard to the financial and administrative activities, as well as the legality of acts and actions of its administrational bodies, Biomedicine Department is supervised by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Development, Competitiveness, Insfrastructure, Transport and Network.
More specifically CE.RE.TE.TH. consists of the following Research Departments staffed with internationally recognized scientific personnel:
- Biomedicine Department in Larissa
- AgroTechnology Department in Karditsa
- Kinesiology Department in Trikala
- Mechatronics Department in Volos
The fist director of Biomedicine Department is Dr.Konstantinos N. Malizos, Professor of Orthopaedics and Dean of the Medical School of the University of Thessaly.
Biomedicine Department focuses both on basic and applied research with the ultimate goal of production of innovative results, which can be used for the discovery of novel drugs or diagnostic methods for the early diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
